Govt. Degree College, Tekkali was accredited with "B" grade, in May 2006, by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, an autonomous body of UGC, as a scale of testimony for this performance..

This is the only Vishnu Temple in "Kurmaavatara" in India. The Srikurmanatha Temple at Srikurman, 13 kms east of Srikakulam, is dedicated to Kurma, the tortoise incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It was built by the Chalukya Kings in the 10th century but was substantially rebuilt by the Cholas in 12th and 13th centuries. The colonnade around the main shrine has 19th century murals of Lord Krishna and Vishnu.

This college is situated beside old 5th National Highway between APSRTC depot and APSRTC Bus Complex. The campus has been surrounded by 20 acres. 300 Eucalyptus and other trees providing shade and cool breeze. The college has 20 well furnished class rooms with proper ventilation and air circulation, 12 full pledged laboratories Two each for Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Bio-chemistry, Computers, One each for Botany, Horticulture. Library with 22,116 books, reading room, Mana T.V., Multi gymnasium, girls' waiting hall (Common Hall), internet centre, cycle shed and canteen are established in this college. Sanitary rooms were constructed for male students with Rs.2 lakhs. one safe drinking water RO plant with Rs.68,000/- and also installed Solar Energy System with a cost of Rs. 3 Lakhs.

One NCC Army wing has been functioning with 200 senior Division cadets commanded by Captain Dr.K.Gangeswara Rao since 1986 to 2008. Now we are trying to reactivate it for the benefit of students.

Two N.S.S Programme Officers Sri G.Ravi Kumar and Sri V.Luke Paul were two NSS Units with 200 N.S.S volunteers for social service. Sri. V.Luke Paul, Lecturer in Chemistry and Sri G. Ravi Kumar, Lecturer in Telugu are now acting as NSS P.O I & II respectively. 40 Lecturers and 18 Non Teaching Staff have been working hard to run this Premier Educational Institution.

In 1998 many U.G. courses were introduced in Government Degree College, Tekkali, namely B.Sc, Industrial Fish and Fisheries, Horticulture B.Com. (VOC)., B.Sc. Computer Science, B.A. Rural Industrialization. One course in B.Sc. named "Medical Lab Technology" was started in 2000 (but the same was closed as a policy matter of university). In 2007 two sections were started viz. B.Sc. Bio-Chemistry (Z.C. Biochemistry) B.A Special Telugu (H.P Special Telugu) and B.A. Special English (Economics, Politics and Special English). The Highlight and mile stone in the history of Tekkali is starting of P.G. Courses in G.D. College, Tekkali. In 2008-09 with M.A. English Literature and M.Sc. Organic Chemistry have been started as a part of its vertical expansion and 2014-15 M.A. Telugu Literature was started.
